Re-Assessing Migrant Issues in Detention Center During Covid-19 & Ways Moving Forward

Two years since the pandemic hit, the Malaysian government recently announced that the country will begin transitioning into the endemic phase. However, there is no report or announcement from the government on the ways forward for the detention centres, especially the migrants in the said centres. There is a need to look into the operation of detention centres, identify ways to improve the condition of the detention centres and ensure the system is prepared for unforeseen situations whilst respecting and upholding the human rights of the migrants.

This forum will gather speakers to share their respective experiences in identifying and analysing the issues and challenges before and during the pandemic, highlighting best practices at the international level, including ways to increase social reintegration and stimulating thoughts and recommendations from the public to improve and strengthen concerning laws and policies.

Join our discussion with moderator Sue Lu Hoe from Collective of Applied Law & Legal Realism and two speakers Glorene Dass from Tenaganita and Abu Mufakhir from Lembaga Informasi Perburuhan Sedane. The discussion will be held on Facebook Live, on 13th April 2022 starting at 3.00pm.
